Sydney Sixers edge out Titans
The Sydney Sixers will face the Highveld Lions in Sunday's Karbonn Champions League T20 final after a tense two-wicket win over the Titans.
Henry Davids' half-century and an impressive late onslaught from David Wiese took the Titans to 163 for five but the Sixers, with contributions throughout, got home off the last ball as young bowler Pat Cummins kept his nerve with bat in hand.
The Titans lost Jacques Rudolph in the first over and finished their six-over powerplay on 39 for three after Mitchell Starc, the tournament's leading wicket-taker, bowled Heino Kuhn (13) and had Martin van Jaarsveld (five) caught at cover to take his tally to 13.
Davids and Farhaan Behardien took the Titans to 58 for three at halfway and put on 43 before Behardien (14) hammered Cummins straight to Nathan McCullum at short cover.
David Wiese then clubbed a six and two fours off Cummins before launching Moises Henriques high into the night sky for two more maximums.
It was the first time in the tournament the tall all-rounder had passed five but he contributed 44 to a half-century partnership with Davids, whose presence was all but forgotten until he reached his 50 with a pulled four off Henriques which Nic Maddinson misjudged in the deep.
Wiese reached a 25-ball half-century, with five fours and three sixes, and finished on 61 not out in a stand of 81 with Davids, who carried his bat for 59 from 44.
Sydney openers O'Keefe and Lumb responded in determined fashion, O'Keefe hitting fours off the first and third balls and Lumb quickly taking on the mantle in a boundary-laden partnership. They put on 54 in 4.5 overs before Lumb (33) skied Alfonso Thomas to Martin van Jaarsveld at point.
O'Keefe and Maddinson continued the momentum but Eden Links bowled the former for 32 and then caught Brad Haddin off Roelof van der Merwe, the ball before Maddinson was run out for 20 to leave Sydney 92 for four.
Henriques was badly dropped by Cornelius de Villiers and launched Links for six and, though Steve Smith gifted quick-thinking wicketkeeper Kuhn his second run-out, Henriques and Ben Rohrer kept the scoreboard ticking.
But Henriques, who hit 28 from 18 balls, slapped Ethy Mbhalathi to Links at long-on to leave 32 needed from four overs with four wickets in hand.
Thomas trapped Nathan McCullum lbw first ball with a clever slow off-cutter as the first went for only four, but a six from Cummins and a dropped catch by Berhardien left only eight needed off the last, bowled by De Villiers.
Rohrer scooped the first ball for two but then drilled a catch to Van der Merwe, but a wide and a sprinted two made it three needed from three and they got home in sometimes frantic singles.
